McCarthy was a two-time all-state captain in 2007 and 2008, and she received renowned bowler-of-the-year accolades in 2007 for her 299 games. In addition, McCarthy won a national championship in bowling in 2008. In addition to that, she was a participant on the all-star team that represented the city of Omaha.

McCarthy defeated a field that included some of the best high school bowlers in the country to claim victory in the North Pointe Invitational in the spring of 2008. This competition was open solely to high school seniors who were about to graduate.
