Rosalynn Carter faced various issues with her health before death. As said earlier, she was diagnosed with dementia, which she battled for a long time.
Apart from that, Carter also had some problems with her health in the past. In April 1977, she underwent surgery to remove a nonmalignant breast tumor.
In August of the same year, she underwent a gynecological procedure at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Her press secretary, Mary Hoyt, described it as a routine private matter.
At that time, the news of Carter dealing with dementia was not shared until the family released a statement in May 2023.
When the announcement was made, it was revealed that she continued to live at home with her husband.
Her husband was living in hospice care at the time of the announcement.
