Angelique Kerber was born to her Polish parents in Bremen on January 18, 1988. Her father, Slawomir Kerber, and her mother, Beata Kerber, were both employees at a training academy in Kiel.

From her childhood days, her parents have invested in her tennis career and provided her with all the necessary support. Her mom Beata is her manager and her dad Slawomir Kerber, a well-known tennis instructor, led the training session for her.

Growing up in an apartment at a training academy, Angelique and her sister Jessica bonded well. She began playing tennis at three and eventually joined the junior circuit.

Kerber plays left-handed despite being born right-handed.
